Be it known to all who enter here that CHRIST is the reason for this school.

He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classes.  He is the model of its faculty and the     inspiration of its students

At St. Philip's...
We believe in children.
There is faith in their eyes, love in their touch, and hope in their attitudes.

We thrill with them at life's joys,
and bow with them in worship.
They are fragile dreams of
yesterday, life's radiant reality today,
and vibrant hope of tomorrow.

Mrs. Sedlak, Principal

Mrs. Sedlak's May Newsletter:

May- June  2010

Springtime Greetings,

It is hard to believe that we will soon put closure to another wonderful school year!  These next few weeks will be busy ones as we celebrate the many good things that have come to pass. We thank God for our continued blessings at         St. Philip the Apostle School!  Thank you for being part of all that we celebrate.  God bless….

Celebration of First Holy Communion

On Saturday our second graders received their First Holy Communion. We pray that they will always treasure the beautiful new relationship they share with Jesus in the Eucharist. On Friday the children will once again be celebrating. They will participate in the First Communion school liturgy which begins at 8:00 a.m. We look forward to being with them! Also, please be reminded that we have an 11:00 dismissal on Friday. Thanks.

Living Rosary

On Friday, April 30th  the eighth graders helped us to pay lovely tribute to the Blessed Mother.

Each year the Living Rosary is a beautiful devotion to Mary. We thank Mrs. Sannasardo for planning that beautiful prayer service. Perhaps in our own homes we can think of ways to offer Mary our springtime love and devotion.

Parent Association Celebrates another Wonderful Year

At this time we pause to thank our Parent Association officers, and our hard working committees for the wonderful things they made possible for the children at St. Philip’s. Their fundraising efforts generated over $50,000 to help offset the 2010-11 school operating budget. Additionally, the Trivia Night raised funds to assist with various Learning Center enhancements.  Heartfelt thanks to our outgoing officers; Co Presidents, Raniah Paolella & Cindy Petrbok; Treasurer,  Michelle Mihalo, and the countless other Parent Association volunteers who help to make so many of our St. Philip wishes come true! God Bless them for all the good things they do!

Mini Relay for Life -May 12th

So many of our families and friends have been touched by the challenges that come with cancer.  On Wednesday,            May 12th St. Philip’s will join in an effort to create a world with more birthdays for all. Students will be participating in a mini relay for life. Hopefully your families have returned their pledge forms.  Thank you for supporting this project with the American Cancer Society. We look forward to being able to make a difference!

And, Now They’re off to Washington!

Our “Recyle Because you Care” team has done it again. Congratulations to Maggie O’ Brien, Angel Loizzo, and Dana Gattone who will be traveling to Washington on May 19th to receive a Presidential Award for their environmental contributions. Their work has had an impact on the community, state, and now, the national level. They make us proud!

REMINDER…

Our school nurse, Mary Tulke, reminds us that all students currently in grades K-2-6 must return their dental forms by May 15.  We have state forms that need to be completed and we want to make sure that we are all in compliance.    Special thanks to Mrs. Tulke, for her ongoing assistance as our School Nurse.

Principal for a Day

On Wednesday, May 5th the Nasti family will be moving into my office as Anthony, Joey, Nico, and Juliana enjoy being Principals for the day! The Nasti family won this auction item at the Trivia Night fundraising event.                   No doubt they will plan lots of surprises for usJ. It should be fun and a most interesting day!

A Few Changes Next Year….

Best wishes, Mr. Zaprzal!  Having recently earned his Masters Degree in Pastoral Ministry, Mr. Zaprzal will be taking on new and different challenges at St. Philip’s next year.  We thank him for all the creative energies he shared as our school music teacher. We also send best wishes to Mr. Zaprzal and his fiancée, Sara, as they anticipate their wedding in August. (Mr. Zaprzal in August, and Mr. Coulter & Ms Wallace in October… love has been in bloom at St Philip’s J)

Also, Sister Barbara will be leaving her role as Learning Center Coordinator to assist Mrs. Cesaroni with various office tasks. Sister will spend a few hours in the office each day, and then she will be joining Mrs.Wonak & her students in the wonderful world of third grade. We can always count on Sister Barbara for her flexibility & her generous heart.

And, Mrs. Linda Kelm is especially excited about our new Learning Center enhancements next year. In addition to teaching small groups of 7th-8th Pre algebra, Mrs. Kelm will also be our new Learning Center Coordinator.                                           We welcome Mrs. Kelm to that new role!

Meet Mr. Reisenbuechler!

On Tuesday, May 25th the Parent Association will be hosting a “Meet & Greet Coffee” for our new principal,             Mr. Robert Reisenbuechler. Mr. Reisenbuechler brings many gifts and talents to share, and he is eagerly anticipating joining the St. Philip family.  I am pleased to be able to pass on this “wonderful gift of St. Philip’s” J.                                 He will be a terrific fit for St. Philip’s, and I know that our children and our school will be in good hands.                       We welcome him, and we hope that he will make St. Philip’s his home for many years to come.                                        May our newest Spartan Leader be richly blessed!  (Details of that event will be forthcoming)

Other Kudos and Congratulations

  • Our preschool artists impressed us with their AWESOME works. If you visited their art gallery you saw their samples of such artists as Michelangelo, O’Keefe, and Van Gogh. Thank you Ms Kondracki, Mrs. Bielak, and Mrs. Noonkester for all the good things you do with our little ones.
  • Congratulations to Eric Gilliam who was a finalist in the National Letters about Literature Contest.               And, thanks, to our coordinator, Ms Roberts for encouraging this project.
  • Our 2nd graders were named finalists in the Siemen’s Environmental Video Contest! Ms Wallace and            Mrs. O’Brien submitted ideas for “Zero Waste Lunches”. You can see the winning video on our web page!
  • Hats off to all the volunteer chaperones who assisted us with the “Feed God’s Starving Children” service project. It was a wonderful experience for all of us. Check out the pictures outside the school office.
  • Our band students will be performing in concert on May 17th at Sacred Heart School. They’re terrific!
  • Best Wishes to the Class of 2010.  As we say good-bye to our graduates, we ask God to watch over them in a special way. We wish them peace… we wish them joy.

End of Year Celebration

The Parent Association will be hosting the End of Year Celebration on Wednesday, June 2nd.  Lunch and special treats are being planned.  We are hoping to be outdoors so jeans and appropriate shorts will be fine that day; however please remind the children to dress for the weather.  OUR LAST DAY of school will be Tuesday, June 3rd.  We will celebrate Mass at 8:00 a.m. followed by Report Cards and dismissal.

And, Finally…Thank You for the Many Wonderful Blessings

I can’t begin to tell you how much joy I have known in being the Principal of St. Philip’s over these last 15 years.  What an amazing community of families! I will remember you and your children fondly. I have been told that a      “Mrs. Sedlak Mass and Farewell Reception” will be held on Sunday, May 23rd.  Although bittersweet, I anticipate being able to share hugs and goodbyes. I will miss all of you dearly. Thank you for everything…You are loved!

In these busy days ahead, may God draw us into His peace, settle our souls, and infuse us with an appreciation of His springtime gifts.  Together we celebrate the joys of a wonderful school year! God bless you and your families in the summer months ahead! Thank you for all the rich and wonderful memories!

Peace, joy, love...

Mrs. Sedlak
